Sean Bawden

Sean Bawden is an experienced litigator and employment lawyer, advising both businesses and individuals. Prior to rejoining Kelly Santini LLP in 2021, Sean served as Director of Litigation & Employment at a publicly listed corporation. In private practice, Sean has considerable experience advising clients in all aspects of employment law, including wrongful dismissal claims, workplace harassment claims and investigations, and human rights. He has counselled clients with respect to the employment implications on mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions.

Sean has successfully represented clients, both individuals and corporations, in front of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. In addition, he regularly appears in front of administrative boards, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and professional disciplinary boards. He has been responsible for litigation management of matters proceeding before foreign bodies including the United States District Court (SDNY; DNJ; WDTX), the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench, and the Superior Court of Quebec. He has also represented clients before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal and international tribunals including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Sean is cited in many legal textbooks, including the 8th edition of Allen Linden's Canadian Tort Law. He also is the publisher of the law blog Labour Pains, which has been cited with approval by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Labour Pains was inducted into the Canadian Law Blog Hall of Fame in 2019 after having been named "the best employment law blog in Canada."

Sean holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa and a B.A. from York University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008.
