Anita Christine Knowlton

Anita Christine Knowlton (Chris) is a retired labour arbitrator and mediator. She was the Founding Director of the Hastings Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution and a Clinical Professor of Law at the University of California, Hastings College of Law, in San Francisco.

After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1978, Chris began representing labour unions and litigating for individual and class action plaintiffs in civil rights cases. She then worked as a neutral arbitrator, mediator, and special master from 1985-2013. During that time, Chris arbitrated thousands of labour grievances, and was included on permanent panels for major league sports, television and motion picture, government, health care, K-12 and university-level education, airlines, utilities, manufacturing, mining, shipping, transportation, aerospace, and other industries.

Chris is the former President of the National Academy of Arbitrators' (NAA) Research and Education Foundation, a former Vice-Present and member of the NAA's Board of Governors, and chair of numerous NAA committees.
