Maria Gergin Phillips

Maria Gergin Phillips is counsel in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she practises labour and employment law. Maria advises employers on a wide range of issues, including workplace harassment investigations, employment standards, policies and contracts, wrongful dismissal claims, health and safety, and human rights issues.

One of the focuses of Maria's practice is mental health in the workplace, including the accommodation of mental health conditions, the investigation and management of workplace conflict, and the promotion of employee psychological health in the workplace. Maria is a certified Canadian Mental Health Association Psychological Health and Safety Advisor. She has also completed the Employee Internal Investigations course at Cornell University ILR School, and she is regularly retained to conduct workplace harassment investigations, particularly in the context of mental health concerns.

Maria holds a J.D. from the University of Ottawa, an M.A. in English Literature from Carleton University, and a B.A. in English Literature and Political Science from the University of Toronto. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2012.
