Dr. Katy Kamkar

Dr. Katy Kamkar is a Clinical Psychologist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). She obtained her Clinical/Research Postdoctoral Fellowship at CAMH (2006–2007). She is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at University of Toronto.

Dr. Kamkar is the Chair of Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Association Inc., Health of Police/First Responders, and the Past Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association Traumatic Stress Sector. Dr. Kamkar is the Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Fire Investigators. She is also the Provincial Mental Health Advisor to St. John Ambulance's Ontario Council.

Dr. Kamkar provides evidence-based assessment services, independent medical evaluation, disability management services, and evidence-based psychological treatment (cognitive behavioural therapy) for mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and stressor-related disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorders, occupational stress injuries to first responders, and psychological distress in the workplace.

Dr. Kamkar is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Psychological Association and a founding and credentialled member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies.

Dr. Kamkar provides ongoing education and workshops to ministries, organizations, and universities (provincial, national, and international), including first responders organizations. Her areas include mental health promotion and well-being; workplace mental health and occupational health and safety; stress and anxiety management, work–life balance, and building individuals pathways to resiliency; disability management and evidence-based best practice guidelines and policies for return to work/stay at work for workers with mental health conditions; and occupational trauma and operational stress injuries. Her current academic work focuses on trauma, mental health risk factors, and optimizing clinical and workplace interventions.

Dr. Kamkar holds a Ph.D. and a C.Psych. designation.
