Augustus Richardson

Augustus Richardson, Q.C., is a former law clerk to the Chief Justice of what was the High Court of Justice in Ontario. He practised civil litigation, primarily insurance defense work, for over 20 years, first in Toronto and then in Nova Scotia. In 2006, he started his practice as a full-time arbitrator and mediator. Gus is a Vice-Chair of the Nova Scotia Labour Board and a long-time adjudicator in the Nova Scotia Small Claims Court. He served as a part-time member of the former Public Service Labour Relations Board of Canada, and he now serves as an adjudicator for the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board.

Gus has published a large number of articles in various legal journals, including the Canadian Bar Review, The Advocates' Quarterly, and Lancaster House's Labour Arbitration Yearbook (2012–2013). He is a frequent presenter at the Canadian Bar Association and Lancaster House seminars on topics in civil litigation, alternative dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation), insurance, administrative law, and labour relations law. Gus is a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators.

Gus holds an LL.B. (Hons.) and a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Toronto and an M.A. from Essex University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984 and the Nova Scotia Bar in 1990.
