Melanie Petrunia

Melanie Petrunia is a partner at Nijhawan McMillan Petrunia Barristers, where she practises tax, commercial, and civil litigation. She previously spent two years in private practice with a leading Atlantic Canada law firm before joining the federal Department of Justice, Tax Law Services. After eight years representing the Canada Revenue Agency, she decided to offer her services to those on the other side of the courtroom. She now assists clients through audits, objections, and Tax Court appeals.

Melanie has been part-time faculty at Dalhousie University, where she co-taught a course on the administration of the Income Tax Act. In addition, she has coached the Dalhousie team in the Donald G. H. Bowman National Tax Moot competition for a number of years.

Melanie serves on council for the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and has been an active volunteer with many organizations in the Halifax area. She regularly appears in the Tax Court of Canada throughout Canada, the Federal Court, and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Melanie is a graduate of McGill University and the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University.
