Currently a Senior Labour Relations Officer with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) in Ottawa, Jeff McKeil has over 30 years of experience in collective bargaining, labour relations, and membership engagement. After getting his start as an organizer with the TA/Sessional Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU) at Simon Fraser University as he completed his M.A. in political science, Jeff honed his practices and skills in the co-op housing sector and as part of the labour relations staff at the BCIT Faculty and Staff Association and the BC Federation of Post-Secondary Educators (FPSE). He served as a member of the BC Federation of Labour’s public sector bargaining committee, co-chaired the FPSE-BCGEU provincial bargaining table and the Joint Administration and Review Committee — the provincial body responsible for overseeing and resolving provincial post-secondary labour relations issues. Jeff has provided education in collective bargaining, membership engagement, grievance administration, and cooperative governance for the Co-op Housing Federations of Canada and B.C., FPSE, the Canadian Labour Congress, the B.C. Federation of Labour, and CAUT.
Joining CAUT in 2013, Jeff provides labour relations and strategic support to faculty associations across the country, with an emphasis on B.C., Alberta, and Ontario. The work increasingly involves countering governmental interference with free collective bargaining.
When he is not working, Jeff enjoys hiking, kayaking, and euchre.
