Christine Chen is the general counsel at University Pension Plan (UPP), overseeing the legal and governance functions. She is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, collaborating closely with UPP’s Board of Trustees to provide strategic direction on all legal matters. Christine is a dual-qualified lawyer (Ontario and England & Wales) with international and multi-disciplinary experience. She began her career at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Toronto before transitioning to in-house counsel for an international private equity manager in London, England.
Christine has experience in a wide range of areas, including pension and benefits, merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, organizational transformation and governance, stand-up of foreign subsidiaries, fund structuring and capital raising, strategic advisory, taxation, and executive compensation. In 2024, she received the Female Trailblazer of the Year award from the Canadian Law Awards and was named a finalist for the Individual Leadership Award at the WILL (Women in Law Leadership) Awards. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Toronto and is an Institute of Corporate Directors graduate (ICD.D).
