Garth Dee attended the University of Toronto law school and was called to the bar in 1985. Garth has been a workers’ compensation advocate in private practice and within the legal clinic system. Garth is the former Director of Benefits Policy for the Workers’ Compensation Board, and the former director of Legal Aid Ontario’s Clinic Research Office. Garth started his career as a lawyer with the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal in 1985 and rejoined the Tribunal in 2006 as a research lawyer and then became a vice-chair in 2009 where he has issued approximately 1300 decisions. Garth is a co-author of the legal text Workers’ Compensation in Ontario and the recipient of the 2025 Ron Ellis Award from the Bar Association for excellence in workers’ compensation law.
