Heather Hoiness is a staff lawyer at B.C.’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner (BCOHRC), presently seconded to the Human Rights Tribunal as legal counsel. At BCOHRC, Heather’s work focuses on the Commissioner’s intervention powers before the courts and Tribunal as well as contributing to the development of public legal education materials. Before joining BCHORC, Heather worked at Moore Edgar Lyster LLP where she practised in the areas of union-side labour, human rights, and professional regulation. Heather holds a J.D. from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a B.A. and B.S.W. from McGill University. She clerked at the B.C. Court of Appeal in 2013-2014. Prior to law school Heather worked for over a decade in community organizations serving people living with HIV/AIDS, immigrant and refugee families, and women in conflict with the law.
