Hy Bloom, LLB, MD, FRCP(C), is a forensic psychiatrist (and lawyer). He is a founding member of the PSILEX Group, Consultants in Behavioural Sciences and the Law, and CEO of Workplace.Calm, Inc., Conflict and Violence Prevention and Management. He is also a part-time staff member in the Complex Mental Illness/Forensic Services Program at the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health, an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. Dr. Bloom is a psychiatric and legal member of both the Ontario and Nunavut Review Boards, as well as a member of the Health Services Appeal Review Board. Dr. Bloom has lectured extensively and published a number of books, book chapters, articles, and manuals in the field of psychiatry and the law, including Law and Mental Disorder: A Comprehensive and Practical Approach (Eds. Bloom and Schneider, Irwin Law, 2013), a 60-chapter textbook. One of his most recent publications is as lead author of a co-written chapter on use of threat and risk assessment tools in lone-actor terrorism (Lone-Actor Terrorism: An Integrated Framework, Holtzer et al., Eds., Oxford University Press, 2022).
