Paula Theriault has been serving as a Labour Relations Officer with the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees since July 2015.  She has worked for over 28 years in the field of Human Resources Management and has held senior HR leadership roles in the public sector. Over the course of her career, she has been involved in various capacities when it comes to workplace investigations. These include: performing investigations and workplace assessments; developing and implementing organizational processes for handling complaints; selecting and hiring investigators, and implementing action plans upon the conclusion of investigation. Finally in her current role, she also assists her clients as they navigate these processes while engaging with various HR professionals and organizational leadership to advocate for procedural fairness, by drawing from her experiences from both an employer and union perspective.

She has always been passionate about growth and learning which has led her to serve and lead on many provincial and national committees to provide for the growth and development of HR professionals, leadership development, and the creation and implementation of strategic initiatives. She served as president of the New Brunswick Chapter of International Personnel Management Association (IPMA)-Canada and co-chair for the International Personnel Management Association (IPMA) National Conference. In more recent years, she has continued to pursue learning and growth for herself as well by attending offerings such as the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) Leadership Development School, the Harvard Trade Union Program Workshops, as well as several of Lancaster House’s Atlantic Labour Law Conferences. She also served on the Lancaster House’s Labour Law Conference Advisory in 2024.

Paula is from Fredericton, New Brunswick and when she is not at work, she values time with her family, exercise, and reconnecting with nature, especially near the ocean.
