Richard Tones is currently the Director of Negotiations with the B.C. General Employees’ Union (BCGEU). As part of his role, he serves as the spokesperson for the Health Services and Support – Community Subsector Association of Bargaining Agents (commonly referred to as the CBA). The Association represents over 21,000 health care workers from eight different unions.
Richard has over 23 years of experience working on behalf of working people and the unions that represent them, including past roles with the Industrial Wood & Allied Workers of Canada (IWA), the United Steelworkers (USW), and the BC Federation of Labour (BCFED), with short stints in the realm of politics in various roles. This experience has exposed him to a wide variety of bargaining situations as well as the various strategies and tools that are available to negotiators.
