Rita De Fazio is an associate lawyer at Ursel Phillips Fellows Hopkinson LLP, where she represents unions and non-unionized employee clients in all areas of labour and employment law. She has experience with cases involving a wide array of labour, human rights, workers’ compensation, and professional disciplinary issues. Prior to joining Ursel Phillips, Rita worked at a union-side Toronto law firm with a focus on construction labour, where she dealt with matters including the acquisition and maintenance of bargaining rights, grievances, jurisdictional disputes, human rights complaints, and judicial reviews. She was also a lawyer and supervisor of law students at IAVGO Community Legal Clinic, where she represented injured workers before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT). Throughout her time in law school at the University of Toronto, Rita was extensively involved with Downtown Legal Services and Advocates for Injured Workers where she had the opportunity to serve clients in matters relating to employment law, workers’ compensation, and refugee/immigration protection.
