Ryan Smith joined Neuman Thompson in June 2016, with previous experience in labour and employment law practice at a national firm in Edmonton. Ryan has experience in all areas of labour and employment law, including collective agreement bargaining, interpretation, and application. Ryan has training as a trauma-informed investigator, and he regularly conducts workplace investigations in both the public and private sectors. Ryan has made submissions to the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and all levels of court in Alberta, as well as to labour arbitrators, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, the Alberta Human Rights Commission, and the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board Appeals Commission, among others. Ryan has taught labour law classes at the University of Alberta and was recently named among the 2026 labour and employment law Best Lawyers in Canada, a peer reviewed program.
