Sheilagh Murphy, K.C., is a partner with MacNab Fagan & Murphy in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. She has a broad legal practice, currently focusing on arbitration, mediation, and workplace investigation. Sheilagh is a former vice-chair and chair of the N.L. Labour Relations Board (2007 to 2017) and is an external adjudicator for the Canada Industrial Relations Board (2019 to present). She has been chair of the N.L. Fish Price Setting Panel since 2022. Sheilagh has heard and decided disputes in labour, employment, administrative, commercial, occupational health and safety, and Charter cases, and she has represented clients at administrative tribunals and courts throughout the province. She volunteers with many community and professional organizations, including as a bencher of the Law Society of N.L. and a Governor of the Law Foundation of N.L. She is a former branch president of Canadian Bar Association (CBA)-NL, former member of the CBA National Board of Directors, and former chair of the Board of Lawyers Financial/Canadian Bar Insurance Association.
Sheilagh has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick, as well as a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2014 and is recognized in 2025 Best Lawyers in the areas of Labour and Employment Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution, among others.
