Sotonye Godwin Hart is a lawyer at Koskie Glavin Gordon, where she represents unions across the full spectrum of labour and employment law. Her practice includes advising and advocating on matters such as terminations, workplace accommodation, collective agreement and policy interpretation, and human rights issues. She regularly represents clients in arbitrations, mediations, and before administrative tribunals.
Sotonye brings significant advocacy experience to her practice, including appellate work representing unions in Nigeria. Since being called to the British Columbia Bar, she has appeared before both the Supreme Court and Provincial Court, advancing complex legal arguments with a strategic and results focused approach. In addition to her litigation practice, she advises senior management and executives on employment matters, including contract negotiations, wrongful dismissal claims, and severance entitlements.
Beyond her legal practice, Sotonye is actively engaged in the community. She serves on the board of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (B.C. Branch) and on the Board of Directors of Union Gospel Mission, a Vancouver based charitable organization.
Sotonye holds a Master of Laws in International Trade and Human Rights from the University of British Columbia, a Bachelor of Laws from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a Certificate in Business Leadership from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers, the Nigerian Bar Association, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
