Michael MacDonald is the Manager for Health Services at Jazz Aviation. Michael oversees a team of healthcare professionals who support the health and disability-related needs of employees from six (6) union groups ranging from Pilots to Flight Attendants and Mechanics to Ground Crews to Systems Operations across Canada. Routinely, he collaborates with medical professionals, union representatives, and human resources professionals along with labour relations management to support constructive outcomes for Jazz’s workforce. He draws on 25-plus years of experience supporting individuals with physical and psychiatric disabilities in a broad variety of contexts. These range from supported living to school settings to insurance claims management through to his present role overseeing occupational health management. In addition to his management role, Michael supports learning at the college/university level in topics ranging from Disability Management (Pacific Coast University) to Creating Positive Workplace Cultures (Dalhousie University Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development). Michael’s academic background includes undergraduate studies in Psychology, Occupational Health and Safety, and Business Administration. He has completed graduate studies in Adult Education, Mental Health and Addictions, and Rehabilitation Leadership. He is a Chartered Human Resource Professional and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist. Michael has served on the Board of Directors for Association of Aviation Psychology. He is currently a member of the leadership team for the International Positive Psychology Association’s Health and Wellbeing division. He also serves on the technical committee for the National Standard of Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (Z1003) hosted by the Canadian Standards Association.
