Jillian Humphreys is a lawyer, investigator, and facilitator with a passion for diagnosing and resolving workplace conflict in a practical and compassionate manner. Jillian received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Western Ontario and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary in 2009, where she was on the Dean’s List and received a number of academic awards. Jillian articled with McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Vancouver and, upon being called to the British Columbia Bar in 2010, joined its Labour and Employment group as an associate for two years. Following her time at McCarthy’s, Jillian sought out and gained additional labour relations experience working at the Health Employers Association of BC before returning to private practice in the Labour and Employment group of another national law firm.

Prior to joining Southern Butler Price LLP, Jillian was the Manager, Labour & Employment Law, at Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), where she was responsible for assessing risk and providing guidance on all labour and employment law matters for the >5,000 employee Crown corporation. In this role, Jillian directly managed a team of four employees, conducted and oversaw hundreds of workplace investigations, led collaborative and productive labour relations (including numerous negotiations), developed key workplace policies, and developed and facilitated training. Over the course of her career, Jillian has represented private and public companies across a variety of sectors, Crown corporations, municipal governments, non-profit organizations, and employees.

Jillian’s practice focuses on work as a neutral third-party investigator and facilitator for public and private sector organizations. Jillian has experience conducting investigations for both provincially and federally regulated employers. She has conducted numerous investigations into a wide variety of matters, including bullying and harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, misconduct, violence in the workplace, criminal-related allegations within and related to the workplace, safety issues, and privacy violations. She became a member of the Government of Canada’s national roster of workplace harassment and violence prevention investigators in 2021. Jillian works collaboratively with employers, employees, and unions to find practical and effective ways to diagnose and resolve workplace conflict. She instills confidence and trust in those who work with her while maintaining objectivity and appropriately managing expectations. Jillian balances compassion and realism in her work and helps parties move beyond their workplace disputes in constructive ways.
