Elected in 2021, Deborah Schaan brings over 20 years of experience in union activism to her role as president of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 417. Deborah is an ardent advocate of workers’ rights, fully committed to her role as a strategist, negotiator, educator, and administrator for CUPE 417. Additionally, Deborah has been elected to represent CUPE Alberta members as the General Vice-President North for CUPE A.B., as the Pension and Benefits chair and Alberta Municipal Employees Committee (AMEC) co-chair for CUPE A.B., and sits as a representative on the CUPE National Pension Committee.
