Dr. Charl Els is a fellowship-trained addiction psychiatrist and an occupational physician. He is employed full-time as Assistant Registrar at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and is engaged in part-time civil forensic practice. Els has published several peer-reviewed technical papers and textbook chapters, served on several ministerial committees and the Health Research Ethics Board and the Alberta Review Board. Academically, he serves as a Clinical Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and at the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta. Els is the recipient of a 2023 Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Award for his contribution to mental health in Alberta.
