Ana Mohammed is a trained lawyer, adjudicator, mediator, and investigator. She has practised in the areas of administrative, civil, criminal law, and has extensive experience in employment and human rights law. She has served as a full-time member of the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal, where she heard and decided human rights complaints as a sole adjudicator, as well as conducting mediations and dealing with complaints at the prehearing and preliminary stages. She has also periodically taught human rights law at the University of British Columbia Law School, as an adjunct professor since 2007. Ms. Mohammed is currently the principal of a human rights and employment consulting practice, working extensively with unionized workplaces in the private and public sectors, and with non-profit organizations. She has worked as a consultant in the B.C. health sector and the College and University sector as a neutral third-party investigator, mediator, and educator/facilitator. She has also conducted workplace assessments and industry troubleshooting work.
Ms. Mohammed is the mother of two daughters. She is a first generation Canadian who has lived and worked in three Canadian provinces since 1977. She brings a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) lens to all the work she does.
In March of 2023, Ana was appointed to the role of Commissioner for Teacher Regulation in B.C. Her appearance today is not related to her role as Commissioner, rather in her capacity as a human rights consultant.
