Ashkon Hashemi has over 20 years of advocacy and labour relations experience and currently serves as a Senior Member Services Officer, Labour Relations for the Association of Administrative and Professional Staff (AAPS) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). AAPS is the bargaining agent for the nearly 6,000 management and professional staff at UBC. Ashkon is responsible for assisting with collective bargaining and dispute resolution, and works with individual members to ensure that their statutory and contractual rights are being respected in the workplace. Ashkon provides advice to members on day-to-day employment matters and representation at employer-initiated investigations as well as at grievance meetings and arbitration.

Before AAPS, Ashkon was a shop steward for almost two decades for his bargaining unit. He is also an experienced parliamentarian, and was often called on by nonprofit organizations and unions to chair meetings, review governance structures, and advise boards on procedural changes.

Ashkon holds a B.A. from the University of British Columbia and a M.A. from York University.
