Catherine Rothrock is the Chief Economist for the Government of Alberta. She leads a team responsible for developing economic and revenue forecasts to support the government’s budget and fiscal planning.
Catherine has spent over 15 years digging into the Alberta economy and following trends that shape the province. She is an analyst at heart and has a passion for the energy sector that was cultivated in Calgary, where she worked for an energy trading company and an oil and gas consulting firm. Her expertise in the energy industry and interest in public policy led her to join the Government of Alberta in 2008. She started as an analyst at Alberta Energy, where she developed the oil price forecast, and moved to Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, where she has taken on progressively senior roles.
Catherine also has a keen interest in international development. She spent three years in Mozambique working with local NGOs, where she gained valuable experience and learned to speak Portuguese. She is a partner in her family’s farm in Central Alberta and enjoys spending time outdoors.
Catherine holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Guelph and a commerce degree from the University of Alberta.
