Professor David Doorey is a Professor of Work Law at York University in Toronto. His research has been published in Canadian and international law and industrial relations journals and he is author of two textbooks, including The Law of Work, now in its 3rd edition, which is used in universities and colleges across the country. His popular Law of Work Blog has been voted the best law blog in Canada on multiple occasions. He was director of Osgoode Hall Law School’s specialist LL.M. program in labour and employment law between 2010 to 2022, has served as Director of York University’s School of Human Resource Management, and is now chair of York University’s new Bachelor of Sports Management program. Professor Doorey is a Senior Research Associate at Harvard Law School’s Centre for Labor and a Just Economy and has been recognized with the Sefton-Williams Memorial Lecture prize, the H.D. Woods Prize, and Morley Gunderson Award for outstanding contributions to Canadian industrial relations. He was called to the bars of Ontario and British Columbia and practised labour law on behalf of unions in both provinces, including as General Counsel to the United Steelworkers in Canada, before returning to academia. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and the University of Toronto. He graduated with an LL.B. and a Ph.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, an LL.M. in Labour Law from the London School of Economics, and a B.A. and Masters’ degree both in Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto.
