David Mercer, KC is the managing partner at Nickerson Roberts Holinski & Mercer and is an experienced labour union lawyer representing many unions, associations, and employees. He has practiced extensively throughout his career in all areas of collective bargaining, labour, employment, human rights, privacy, pension, health and safety, disability law, and workplace issues. Mr. Mercer has appeared before many provincial labour boards and tribunals throughout Canada and all levels of courts including provincial courts, Courts of King’s Bench, Courts of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has extensive labour arbitration practices in Alberta and other provinces.

Mr. Mercer is a frequent speaker at labour law and employment law seminars, union workshops, and shop steward training.

Mr. Mercer holds a certificate from the Labour College of Canada (University of Montreal/McGill), and a B.A. and LL.B. from the University of Alberta. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1981 and is also a member of the Nunavut Bar. He is a practice assessor with the Law Society of Alberta and a recipient of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for his contribution to the Practice of Labour Law in Alberta and was appointed King’s Counsel in 2016.
