Hasan Alam is a staff lawyer at the B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU), where he practises in the areas of labour and human rights law. Prior to joining the BCGEU, Hasan worked for a Vancouver labour firm and completed his articles at the B.C. Public Interest Advocacy Centre. He is also a supervising lawyer at the Archway Community Services Legal Advocacy Program, a legal clinic that assists individuals and families with low-income levels.
Hasan is the president of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, Canada’s oldest Civil Liberties association which seeks to promote, defend, sustain, and extend civil liberties and human rights. He also serves on the steering committee of the Islamophobia Legal Assistance Hotline, a free and confidential service he co-founded to provide legal advice to individuals facing discrimination for being Muslim or perceived as Muslim.
