Jim Johnson is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia. He previously held academic appointments at Wilfrid Laurier University, McMaster University, University of Saskatchewan, and Okanagan University College.

He was Chief Negotiator for the University of British Columbia Faculty Association from 2010 to 2023. He previously served five years as Chief Negotiator for the Okanagan University Collage Faculty Association. His other union positions include President of the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC (CUFA-BC), President of the Okanagan University College Faculty Association, and Executive Member at Large of the College Institute Educators Association (CEIA), now the Federation of Post Secondary Educators of BC (FPSE).

His primary research interests are in the areas of industrial relations, labour market discrimination, and econometrics.
