John Whelan is the principal of Whelan Dispute Resolution and maintains an exclusively neutral practice focused on alternative dispute resolution (ADR), workplace investigations, and administrative tribunals. Prior to his return to private practice, John was general counsel for one of Newfoundland’s largest private employers.
John is currently the chief adjudicator for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Public Complaints Commission, vice-chair of the Standing Fish Price Setting Panel, an adjudicator under Newfoundland’s Urban and Rural Planning Act, and a Commissioner of the St. John’s Assessment Review Court.
When not pondering what standard of review may apply to him on any given day, John can be found either cooking for his wife and two kids or lamenting his fate as an avid cyclist in a province known for its wind and hills.
