Justin Amaral is an Employment Lawyer with Morrison Watts. His practice focuses on representing workers, unions, and individuals in labour and employment, human rights, disability, and administrative law. He acts for clients in a variety of contexts including labour arbitration, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and in court.
Prior to joining Morrison Watts in 2018, Justin practised labour and employment law at a firm specializing in representing persons with disabilities. He also articled at one of Canada’s largest labour and employment law boutiques, where he worked tirelessly for union clients and on complex matters that directly impacted precarious individuals, including several employment class actions. Having served as a Case Worker with Parkdale Community Legal Services, a legal aid clinic in Toronto, Justin fought for tenant rights and saw first-hand how employment and housing impact a client’s overall well-being.
During law school, Justin cultivated an interest in advocacy and access to justice initiatives. He co-authored a research paper exploring online intake, which was featured in a video published on Canadian Lawyer and reviewed by Legal Aid Ontario as part of their research into improving access to justice for rural and remote communities. He continues to advocate for access to justice through legal aid and has co-authored an academic article on Legal Aid Ontario, published in the Journal of Law and Social Policy.
Justin holds a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School (2016) and a BA in Political Science and Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University (2013). He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2017.
