Laura Ross proudly works for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) as Senior Officer, Legal Branch. In this role, she provides legal advice on a variety of issues, including internal union discipline, labour relations, human rights, governance, privacy, elections, and law reform. Laura also advises CUPE’s Safe Union Spaces Working Group on topics including harassment and discrimination within union spaces, trauma-informed practices, ombudsperson programs, and internal union discipline models. Periodically, Laura facilitates multi-party mediations stemming from union spaces and supports CUPE’s Ombudsperson Program. A seasoned public speaker, Laura enjoys making workplace law, conflict resolution, and union governance accessible for workers.

Prior to joining CUPE, Laura was an employment relations officer in a federal public service union between 2009 and 2019. Laura represented members in labour relations issues related to human rights, staffing, health and safety, and administrative investigations. Laura also regularly facilitated activist training courses on workplace accommodation, dispute resolution, and collective agreement rights. Before working as a union representative, Laura articled with a union-side labour law firm and worked as a research officer supporting collective bargaining.

Laura holds a B.B.A. from the University of New Brunswick and an LL. B. from the French Common Law Program at the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2009.
