Lewis Gottheil was the founding member and Director of the Legal Department of Canadian Auto Workers Canada and its successor, Unifor. He was appointed to that position in January 1990 and retired from the staff of the Union on February 1, 2015. He now operates his own law office and continues to advise and advocate on behalf of unions. Lewis is also active in the field of union education.
