Michelle Farrell is a lawyer/mediator in private practice. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Common Law Program and was called to bars of Ontario (1998) and New York (2004). She began her legal career as an articling student with the Department of Justice where her longstanding commitment to human rights and alternative dispute resolution was encouraged and developed. Over her career, Michelle has gained a broad range of experiences which inform her ability to work closely with clients to provide valuable and practical advice. As an experienced trial lawyer, she understands both the evidentiary requirements and limitations of litigation and is adept at fostering practical, effective solutions for her clients. Michelle has held leadership positions in public institutions – such as, Ethics & Equity Advisor to the Chief of the Toronto Police Service and, Human Rights and Equity Advisor at the York Catholic District School Board — where she provided advice concerning policies, risk management and statutory compliance issues. As a mediator, Michelle has a proven track record of identifying underlying sources of conflict and promoting healing.

Michelle has been a speaker/lecturer on human rights, advanced interviewing techniques, and trial advocacy. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers and the UJIMA Mentorship Circle. She serves on the boards of the Ontario Basketball Foundation and the Kensington Market Jazz Festival. She is a classically trained soprano with a growing appreciation for football.
