Dr. Sahar Bhaloo, M.A, Psy. D, C Psych., has her bachelor’s in science, master’s in counseling, and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She completed her post-doctoral residency at University of California San Francisco in their Survivors of Torture and Victims of Violent Crime/Domestic Violence Trauma Program. Her area of clinical focus is in assessment and treatment of complex trauma.
Formerly, Dr. Bhaloo has held roles as the supervising psychologist and psychological evaluator at the Center for Survivors of Torture and as the interim director of the Center for Well-being at the International Rescue Committee. Prior to this Dr. Bhaloo worked in the Trauma Therapy Program and Women Recovering from Abuse programs at Women’s College Hospital and in numerous psychological emergency, community mental health and addictions, and outpatient clinics. In addition to her practice in Canada, the U.S., and India, Dr. Bhaloo has participated in clinical and capacity building program development roles in several international initiatives in mental health and trauma in India, Sri Lanka, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Currently, in private practice, Dr. Bhaloo sees children, adults, and young adult clients experiencing difficult transitions, stress, relationship issues, anxiety, work and school performance concerns, self-esteem issues, anger concerns, workplace harassment, substance abuse, trauma/PTSD, and different forms of depression (post-partum etc.). In individual therapy she helps clients navigate and transform the psychological and emotional impact of difficult life experiences, optimizing strengths and building resilience. She brings her international experience, specialization in trauma (DBT trained), background in Adlerian Psychology, and expertise with diverse clients to the practice.
