Shibil is a Founding Partner at Progressive Barristers. He represents employees and a select roster of progressive employers in all aspects of workplace disputes, with specific expertise in addressing human rights and harassment issues.

Shibil has represented clients before all levels of the court in Ontario, and before several administrative tribunals including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, and the Canada Industrial Relations Board. Shibil is also frequently called on to conduct workplace investigations.

Shibil obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Warwick in the UK, and his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Human Rights Law at the University of Toronto.

Shibil has practiced human rights, employment, administrative and residential tenancies law at a downtown Toronto community legal clinic serving some of the City’s most marginalized communities. He then practiced exclusively in human rights law at an independent government agency before founding Progressive Barristers. Shibil has worked in the justice sector internationally, and helped establish a legal aid clinic in Kabul, Afghanistan in partnership with the International Development Law Organization. He has been a Fellow at the Gordon Foundation and at the Centre for the Critical Study of Power and Politics at Trent University. Shibil is a former member of the Equity Advisory Group that advises the Law Society of Ontario on equity, diversity, and inclusion issues in the legal profession. He is a member of the Advocates’ Society, the Association of Human Rights Lawyers, Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights, Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association, and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.
