Yasmeena Mohamed was appointed to the Ministry of Labour’s list of arbitrators in 2008 and currently practises as an arbitrator and mediator in all sectors of labour and employment matters. She was appointed to the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal in 2010. Prior to her appointment as arbitrator, Yasmeena worked as senior counsel for the Ministry of Government Services. She carried a management-side labour and employment law practise and advised government clients on a wide spectrum of matters, including: collective agreement bargaining matters, labour and employment relations, wrongful dismissals, human rights, Charter challenges, occupational health and safety, worker’s compensation, employment standards, and workplace policies. Yasmeena represented the Ontario Government before various levels of the labour boards of arbitration and court, including the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Public Service Grievance Settlement Board, the Crown Employees Grievance Settlement Board, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and both the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal in judicial review applications and wrongful dismissal matters. Prior to working for the Ontario Government, Yasmeena practised as a sole practitioner specializing in union-side labour matters and personal injury matters. She is a law graduate from the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa) and Queen’s University (Kingston). Yasmeena was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997.
