Alanna Mihalj is general counsel to the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 113, which represents over 13,000 transit workers in the Toronto area. Her practice focuses mainly on labour law and workers’ compensation law. She advocates before labour arbitrators and administrative boards and tribunals, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She also provides advice and representation to the union in a variety of areas, including matters related to collective bargaining, accommodation and other human rights issues in the workplace, long-term disability, and occupational health and safety.
Alanna is on the Board of Directors of the Industrial Accident Victims’ Group of Ontario (IAVGO) community legal clinic. She holds a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Western Ontario (2008) and a J.D. from the University of Toronto (2011). She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2012.
